DART just launched an new tool called "Where's my Bus?" that allows you to track buses in real time...so no more fear of the unknown for bus users! Its still in beta testing, and its intended for mobile devices, but you can access DART's mobile website on a regular computer as well:

Thanks! That feature will come in handy for me.

That's good. Now they just need to use that data on the LED screens at the rail stations.

I suppose the M-Line needs to mount some GPS units on their fleet. Although with all the electrical noise from their inverters, it probably won't work.

. . . and install LED screens at EVERY rail station. I've been wondering why DART hasn't done this yet. LED screens at rail stations announcing next train/bus arrivals would provide a major customer service to DART's riders.

But is it even worth it to install these anymore, since almost everyone has mobile devices now, and even more people will in years to come? Its like installing pay phones.

I meant the phone app - not the LED sign.

This feature is now out and running, and I've used it several times. It works really great actually and even shows me a map. The bus even arrived to the minute that it said it would. (except I was still running for it)

I've promised myself that if I can drag my butt outta bed on time to ride the bike to the bus (thanks for nothin', Mesquite), then I'll reward myself by plunking down the $ for a web-enabled phone and the $20/mo for the service... justifying the expense by watching the bus come on the DART app.
(But getting out of bed at 5:30 still hasn't happened yet...)
