Blame it on the swine flu.

Thousands of North Texans had their weekend plans disrupted Thursday after several event organizers, concerned about the swine-flu outbreak, canceled festivities.

Mayfest in Fort Worth and Dallas’ Cinco de Mayo Celebration in Pike Park were among the largest festivals canceled.

The announcements came after Dallas and Tarrant County health officials grew concerned that large public gatherings could contribute to the virus’ spread.

Am I missing something here? I really don't understand the media circus over this thing or the closings.

The paranoia is knee deep at the airport... I was getting off a flight from SLC yesterday and sneezed right as I walked off the bridge and 3 or 4 people quite literally jumped away from me and proceeded to stare at me which I assume was an assesment of my potential to have Swine Flu. Guess I should have taken a Claratin.

I guess I can't complain. My living in Europe in the late 80's has gotten me out of years of blood donation. They think I might have Mad Cow disease which at any moment could cause me to lose my mind and moo histerically.

Jeez, if some people can handle something like this, I wonder how people would react if there was a zombie outbreak...

It depends on the nature of the zombism. High-speed zombies or traditional zombies?

I remember SARS in 2003 working in Taipei and then transiting through Hong Kong on the way home. We have not seen anything yet.

They always said we would have a black president when pigs fly. After Obama's first 100 days in office and bam, swine flu...
