Let's keep our fingers crossed.

I am feeling very confident that it will pass.

Man, I keep checking the DMN website for any sort of information. I wonder when the vote will come down? Well- my fingers are definitely crossed!

KellyUSA,
I shot an email earlier to Dave Michaels, the DMN journalist covering the Victory story, and he said the voting should take place today around 3:30 or so.

I heard on the radio that the council will re-convene after 1:00pm, but it has been an hour now and still nothing on DMN.
Still waiting

Thanks for the information downtowner!

It's very rare that I turn the dial from 1310 The Ticket- but if the City Council meeting was ever carried live on the radio- today would be the day I switch! Well- since you have an inside track- keep us posted...

I just heard that the vote will not happen until late tonight. Mayor Miller has extended the talk time for citizens by anohter 30 minutes- then the councilmembers will debate (which is expected to take forever)- followed by a power point presentation by Laura on why they should not approve this. We may not find out until tomorrow morning.

just saw the same thing.....damn....miller with the last word

Is Laura Miller for anything but herself? I'm already grown tired of this broad. She's the definition of special interest. She used her office as a council member to benefit her and her husband's causes, and she's doing the same as mayor. Follow the money.

Council agrees to repay Palladium for Victory project
05/22/2002

By Victoria Loe Hicks / The Dallas Morning News

The Dallas City Council voted Wednesday to approve a $43 million reimbursement to the Palladium Co. for public amenities within the developer's proposed Victory project. The vote was 9-6.

Palladium will be repaid for building parks, a plaza and parking spaces. They money will come from the increased property tax revnues generated within the development near the American Airlines Center.

Mayor Laura Miller and other opponents of the measure said the city got too little in the way of assurances that Palladium will build the promised $550 million development. They said Ross Perot Jr. and Tom Hicks, who are selling the land to Palladium, already were obligated to build Victory in return for $125 in tax money that went to the American Airlines Center.

Supporters of Palladium's request said it was a good investment toward a project that is the city's best hope for injecting life into a less-than-jazzy central city.

Council members who voted for Palladium were Leo Chaney, James Fantroy, Elba Garcia, Don Hill, John Loza, Ed Oakley, Mary Poss, Maxine Thornton-Reese and Alan Walne.

Voting against the proposal were Lois Finkelman, Sandy Greyson, Mark Housewright, Veletta Forsythe Lill, Ms. Miller and Mitchell Rasansky.

And the best part of it is that Laura Miller's 2 major issues, police/fire pay raises in one huge jump as opposed to the phase-in plan, and opposing Victory funding, have both been defeated. Better get rolling on those potholes before you are left with nothing to do, Mrs. Miller.

Police and Fire pay will be increased at 5% over the next 3 years. This is exactly what Miller proposed.

Mustang....you are correct. She did support the phased pay increase. I am waiting for fixed potholes to be fixed
