Mayor the victim of a bad steed
12/20/2002
Fort Worth City Council members said they weren't horsing around when they sent a few wranglers to invite Dallas Mayor Laura Miller to the city's stock show and rodeo.
But a toothy horse Thursday took a bite out of their goodwill efforts – and out of the mayor's arm.
After Ms. Miller greeted those on horseback at Dallas City Hall, one of the animals, ridden by a member of the Fort Worth Herd, sunk its teeth into her arm.
Her pinstriped suit did not provide sufficient protection, as the bite left a red splotch that was quickly developing into a bruise.
"That's going to leave a mark," chief of staff Crayton Webb observed.
Whether the horse hindered relations between Dallas and Fort Worth remained an open question.
"All bets are off," Ms. Miller joked.
